Venue
FE2019 will take place at the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature (KANTL), Koningstraat 18, Ghent, Belgium. Lunch will be provided to all participants at KANTL. Click here for more information (in Dutch) on the conference venue and here for a map.
The workshop dinner will take place at restaurant Multatuli, Huidevetterskaai 40, Ghent. This is at walking distance from the KANTL.
How to get to the conference venue?
By taxi:
Once arrived in Ghent, the easiest way to get to KANTL is to take a taxi. The address of the KANTL is Koningstraat 18, near the ‘Vrijdagsmarkt’ and the ‘Vlasmarkt’. This information should be enough for the taxi driver to bring you there. From eitther “Gent Sint-Pieters” or “Gent Dampoort” (the two main train stations in the city) the taxi fare will be around 25€.
By public transport, from station “Gent Sint-Pieters”:
Option 1: take bus 55 (direction ‘Zelzate Busstation’) or bus 58 (direction ‘Eeklo – Brugge Station’) and get off at ‘St. Jacobs’ square. Then walk up the ‘Belfortstraat’, turn left (‘Kammerstraat’) and KANTL is right in front of you (See map).
Option 2: Take Tram 1 and get off at ‘Korenmarkt’. Walk to KANTL (See map).
How to get to Belgium
By Air
The main airport in Belgium is Brussels-National Airport, located in Zaventem, about 60 km from Ghent. From there, you easily reach Ghent by train. For flight details, connections and local transportation from the airport please check the airport’s website: http://www.brusselsairport.be.
For budget airlines see http://www.charleroi-airport.com/nl/brussels-south-charleroi-airport/. Charleroi Airport, also called Brussels South Airport, is a smaller airport located about 60km from Brussels.
By train
Belgium has an extensive railway system. The majority of the international lines pass through Brussels from which you have good connections to Ghent. Thalys is the high-speed train that takes you to Paris, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, etc. Eurostar is the high-speed train that goes between Brussels and London. Arriving at Brussels Airport
The airport City Express leaves from within the airport building (floor -2) and takes you to one of the main stations in Brussels. There you can switch to one of the many IC trains to or via “Gent Sint-Pieters” (e.g. directions Brugge, Blankenberge, Knokke, Oostende). Alternatively, you can first go to “Antwerpen Berchem” and then take a direct train to Ghent (which stops both in “Gent Dampoort” and in “Gent Sint-Pieters”).
Arriving at Charleroi Airport
On arrival at the airport take the direct bus (bus A) which will bring you to the train station Charleroi-Sud in about 20 minutes. From there, take a train to Brussels Midi/Zuid, where you can switch to one of the many IC trains to or via Ghent.
The cheapest, most efficient way to get from Charleroi Airport to Ghent is by buying a “billet bulk” from one of the machines at the airport. The price of the ticket should include the bus transfer and also the trains from Charleroi-Sud to Ghent.
Arriving by train in Brussels
Take one of the many IC trains to or via “Gent Sint-Pieters” (e.g. directions Brugge, Blankenberge, Knokke, Oostende), or take a train to “Antwerpen Berchem” and then to or via “Gent-Sint-Pieters”.
Accommodation
An easy and well-tested option is the Ibis Opera hotel, which is very close to the conference venue, or the one in the city center.
